James Anderson Heritage Award Nomination Form
The James Anderson Heritage Award was created by the Heritage Stratford Advisory Committee through Stratford City Council in Honour of James Anderson (1929-1994).
James Anderson was instrumental in the creation of the Heritage Stratford Advisory Committee (formerly LACAC), was a long-standing member of the committee and served as the Chair. Mr. Anderson helped form the Stratford-Perth Archives and the Stratford-Perth Museum and for many years served as its curator.
Mr. Anderson demonstrated leadership in the restoration and preservation of heritage structures within the City of Stratford. He assisted in preserving the Gordon Block from demolition and helped save many other heritage properties including the Perth County building at 1 Huron Street.
The Heritage Stratford Advisory Committee is calling for nominations for the James Anderson Heritage Award. This award recognizes the achievements of individuals or groups for Heritage Preservation and Conservation in the City of Stratford. It is named to recognize the work of Mr. Anderson.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the James Anderson Award nominees must be:
- residents of the City of Stratford,
- 18 years of age or older,
- an individual(s) who has/have made a significant contribution to the community of Stratford in the area of built or cultural or natural heritage preservation, or heritage garden conversation, or
- a small group project where an effort was shared by one of the following:
- steering or ad-hoc committee;
- co-authors of a local history publication;
- group instrumental in the restoration of a heritage property.
Ineligible Persons:
- Those persons who perform heritage duties for remuneration during the normal course of business, professional or elected work are not eligible to be nominated for this award.
Categories
Built:
- leadership in the restoration and preservation of heritage structures such as buildings or bridges or heritage districts;
- research or writing related to heritage structures or districts.
Cultural:
- voluntary teaching of local history or traditions;
- research or writing related to local history or traditions;
- collections of local artifacts, heritage photographs, or memorabilia shared with the community.
Natural:
- demonstrated leadership in the projection of natural heritage such as endangered species habitats, wetlands or watercourses;
- significant natural heritage conservation activities by private landowners;
- research or writing related to heritage areas.
Heritage Garden Conservation:
- hands-on volunteer work in preserving, restoring or recreating a heritage garden based on historical research;
- leadership to support heritage garden conservation;
- research or writing related to heritage gardens.
Only one nomination per person or group in each category can be submitted. One award will be given for each category.
Nominations will be reviewed by the Heritage Stratford Advisory Committee.
